The current Administration’s new Environmental Protection Agency vehicle mileage standards regulations, designed to force the end to manufacturing new liquid fuel-powered vehicles beginning in 2027, has been challenged in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia by a large and diverse coalition of states, unions, companies and trade organizations including EEIA.
Earlier this year, when the now-implemented regulations were initially proposed, it detailed their highly adverse impacts on energy infrastructure. This notably included reducing demand for liquid fuels by half by 2040 and by 86% by 2055, which would effectively eliminate a large portion of U.S. crude oil production, end most fuel refining, and eliminate the need for existing and new liquids pipelines.
