Small Business Optimism Slips in June

Summary

The National Federation of Independent Business Small Business Optimism Index fell 3.6 points in June to 89.5. The index has been trending lower for a year now, and June’s drop brought the index below the low hit in April 2020. All ten of the index’s components fell this past month, led by a 13 point drop in the share of firms expecting their real sales to increase. Moreover, the share of firms expecting the economy to improve over the next six months fell seven points to -61%, the lowest reading in the 48-year history of the survey.
